Keeping old strings out of landfill

Everyone loves new strings, they sound better, intonate better and play better. However, every time you change your strings, the old set usually ends up in the bin. Strings are a mix of steel, nickel, bronze and brass, and most council recycling can’t deal with them, so millions of sets end up in landfill every year.

StringCycle is our answer to that. Bring your old strings into the shop and drop them in our StringCycle bin. We send everything we collect to TerraCycle, who separate the materials and process them so they can be turned into new products.

So far we’ve kept more than 30 kg of strings out of landfill from our shop alone.

How to take part

  • Coil up your old strings so they don’t snag.
  • Drop them in the StringCycle bin at our shop during opening hours.
  • Electric, acoustic, bass and classical strings are all welcome.

It’s free, and you don’t need to buy anything. If you’re getting a setup done in our workshop, we’ll recycle your old strings for you.

Run a shop, studio or school?

We’re looking at bringing StringCycle to other music shops and venues. If you’d like to be involved, get in touch!
