Guyatone are one of the brands synonymous with the early wave of instrument manufacturing in Japan. Established in 1933, Guyatone saw the peak of production during the guitar boom of the mid-1960s.
This particular example, the VB-28 is a super cool copy of a Hofner Violin bass, looks and all. Predominant difference revolves around the Guyatone having a bolt-on neck construction, as well as a slightly shallower body depth. Reputably, the pickups in these are meant to be quite similar in construction to the original Hohner examples, and this one certainly does sound it! Hardware throughout appears to be original, and is finished in quite a dark brown sunburst colour. Appropriately 1970s of course.
Cosmetic condition is reasonable for its age, with a fair few dings and scratches predominantly concentrated on the back of the body, neck, and headstock. Hardware is fully functional, and plays with a medium-high action. Includes a period correct hardcase.
