1961 Airline Town and Country Sunburst

A killer, clean example from Airline!

Manufactured by Valco for the department store chain, Montgomery Ward, Airline manufactured a range of instruments that served as more affordable options during their peak of production. In later years, these instruments saw use amongst bluesmen and indie rockers, who utilised them to great effect. This particular example is the Town and Country model, a quite eye-catching three-pickup model from Airline. A shorter scale, solid body model, these feature chambering in the body and utilise an incredibly unique pickup/control configuration. Each pickup has its own volume and tone, with a master tone and three-way switch featured. Despite being humbucker sized, the original pickups in this example are in fact single coils, an extremely common thing to see on these old Airline models. A look at the wiring reveals original Stackpole pots dating to 1961. Original single-line Kluson tuners are also present. Serial number also appears to be within the range for models manufactured this year. It's always a delight to encounter these instruments here in Australia!

Cosmetic condition is very good for its age, showing minor scuffs, dings, and finish wear throughout its original nitro finish. Hardware is fully functional, and plays with a low action. Includes the original hardcase.
